How TCG live auctions work: complete guide
By Blisterr Team
Live shopping has transformed trading card sales in a few years. What only existed as static listings or physical auction rooms now happens in real time, from your home, on your phone. Here’s how TCG live auctions work in 2026, and how to participate.
What is a TCG live auction?
A live auction is a real-time streamed sale: a seller broadcasts from their shop or living room, presents items one by one, and auctions them live to viewers. You see the card from all angles, you hear the seller’s pitch, you bid against other buyers in real time.
It’s the digital evolution of the auction room: tension rises with every countdown second, last-second overbids happen, and the highest bidder wins.
Two auction formats on Blisterr
On Blisterr, you can join two auction types during a Live:
Classic auction
Bids are visible to all in real time. You see the price climb, you know exactly how much to outbid. The most dynamic format, ideal for iconic items (vintage, graded, rare sealed).
Silent auction
Bids are hidden until close. You submit your max bid, the system awards the lot to the highest bidder at countdown end. This format reduces aggressive over-bidding and protects the buyer from public exposure of their budget.
Typical Live flow
- Seller goes live at an announced time. You’re notified if you follow their shop.
- You join the live from the Blisterr app. Chat is open, you ask the seller questions.
- Seller presents a lot: describes the card, condition, provenance, reserve price.
- Auction starts: seller launches a countdown (60-120 seconds typically). Viewers bid by tapping.
- Countdown ends, highest bidder wins. Payment is processed automatically.
- Seller moves to next lot and the live continues until items run out.
Bid commitment: a crucial point
On Blisterr as on serious platforms, any bid placed is a firm, final and irrevocable commitment to pay once won. The bidder:
- Cannot withdraw their bid.
- Cannot reverse their participation.
- Cannot dispute allocation (except clear platform technical error).
You have 9 days max to pay. Otherwise, your account may be suspended, the lot offered to the second-highest bidder, and recovery initiated. Many new buyers underestimate this: bidding on an €800 card on impulse means committing to pay €800.
Live booster opening: radical transparency
A TCG-specific mechanic: opening sealed boosters during the live. You buy a sealed Pokémon, Magic or Yu-Gi-Oh booster, the seller opens it on camera, and ships you the cards revealed.
This is radical transparency: what you see is what you get. No chance the seller sorts cards after opening to keep the best ones.
Legal note: boosters and packs opened during a live at your request or in your direct presence are considered clearly personalized goods under article L.221-28 of the French Consumer Code, and are excluded from the right of withdrawal. You agree to acquire the revealed content as is, with no recourse on the mere draw randomness. Buyer protection still applies in case of counterfeit or repackaged pack.
Tips for bidding well in a Live
Set your budget BEFORE
The worst live mistake: getting carried by adrenaline and exceeding your budget. Set yourself a per-lot limit before joining, and stick to it.
Watch the competition
If three buyers are on the lot, the price will climb fast. If you’re alone, hold margin to not reveal your interest.
Snipe smart
Last-second overbid (“snipe”) is a classic. On platforms with time-extension (the auction extends if anyone bids in the last 10 seconds), sniping doesn’t work — you need to bid early and strong.
Prefer verified sellers
On Blisterr, every seller has Stripe Connect KYC and a human review. Avoid auctions from sellers with no history, especially items above €200.
Use the chat
Ask about condition, provenance, grading. A serious seller answers. An evasive seller is a red flag.
Payment after a winning bid
Once you win a lot, payment is processed automatically by Stripe. You can choose:
- Bank card (Visa, Mastercard, American Express).
- Apple Pay and Google Pay.
- Blisterr wallet balance (if available).
No banking data is stored at Blisterr. The transaction is protected by the 30-day buyer protection program: item not received, not matching description, or proven counterfeit — you can open a dispute from the app.
Cost of a live for the seller
Going live on Blisterr is free. No signup fees, no subscription fees, no seller commission. The seller keeps 100% of the sale price of every winning lot.
Fees are fully borne by the buyer: 6.9% + €0.49 per transaction. This structure protects the seller from a margin eroded by commissions, and funds the service via transaction volume rather than unit margin.
Why live exploded on the TCG market
Three concrete reasons:
- Trust: seeing the card in video, live, from all angles, eliminates 80% of doubts vs a static photo.
- Social: community chat, questions to the seller, bidding against other collectors — it’s the physical store experience reproduced online.
- Exclusivity: sellers often save their best pieces for lives, creating an “event” effect non-existent in classic marketplaces.
