The Peek explained: the short video format revolutionizing TCG sales
By Blisterr Team
Live auctions have already transformed trading card sales — but they have a structural flaw: you have to be there, at the exact broadcast time. To fill this gap, Blisterr created the Peek: a short vertical video presenting an item with buy or bid in one tap, at any time.
It’s the asynchronous video format of TCG, and it’s a Blisterr exclusive.
What is a Peek?
A Peek is a short vertical video, usually 15-60 seconds, presenting a card, a lot, or a sealed item. You swipe vertically, like TikTok or Instagram Reels, to discover the next Peek.
Unlike Reels, you’re not there for entertainment: you’re there to buy. Each Peek has a “Buy” or “Bid” button directly integrated in the video. You see the card, you decide, you buy. No need to navigate elsewhere.
Peek vs Live: which to choose?
Both formats coexist on Blisterr and address different needs:
| Criterion | Peek | Live |
|---|---|---|
| Sync | Asynchronous (anytime) | Synchronous (scheduled) |
| Duration | 15-60 sec | 30 min to several hours |
| Interaction | Tap to buy | Chat, questions, live bids |
| Ideal for | Regular stock, micro-lots | Iconic pieces, events |
| Seller commitment | Recording in advance | Live broadcast |
| Volume potential | High (continuous catalog) | Concentrated (event) |
A serious seller uses both: Peek for regular stock, Live for premium pieces and community events.
Why Peek changes everything for buyers
1. You see the card in motion
A static photo hides too much: a light whitening on edges, a centering defect, a dulled holo. A 30-second video filmed from multiple angles eliminates 80% of uncertainty.
2. You buy whenever you want
No need to wait until 9 PM for a seller’s live — their Peek catalog is available 24/7. You swipe for 10 minutes in the morning, buy what you like, leave for work.
3. The algorithm learns your taste
The Peek feed is AI-personalized: the more you swipe, the more the system refines what it shows you. If you watch lots of Pokémon Base Set, you’ll see more. If you like Magic Modern, your feed shifts.
4. Discovering new sellers
Peek highlights emerging sellers alongside big shops. You stumble on atypical collections you wouldn’t have actively searched for.
5. Engagement is calmer than in a Live
No last-second overbid stress, no FOMO. You take time to watch the video, decide, buy. Ideal for thoughtful buyers.
Why Peek changes everything for sellers
1. Your catalog is available 24/7
Once published, your Peek loops in the feed of interested buyers. No need to be online. No need to host a 2-hour live to sell 5 cards.
2. Marginal time investment
Filming a card: 30 seconds. Editing a Peek: 1-2 minutes with the integrated tool. You can create 20 Peeks in an hour for your weekend stock.
3. Video format boosts conversion rate
Internal Blisterr data shows a Peek converts on average 2-3× better than an equivalent static listing. Video creates trust, simple as that.
4. Strong organic reach
Our algorithm pushes relevant Peeks to collectors in the right categories. A new seller can reach thousands of qualified buyers with no marketing budget.
5. Compatible with all your formats
You can sell a Peek as:
- Instant buy (fixed price).
- Classic auction (visible bids).
- Silent auction (hidden bids).
- Drop (scheduled flash sale).
- Giveaway (raffle among swipers).
How to nail a seller Peek
Best practices from the highest-performing Peeks on Blisterr:
Video format
- Vertical, 9:16 (mobile native).
- Ideal duration: 20-40 seconds. Beyond, you lose attention. Below, you don’t show enough.
- Close framing: card should fill at least 60% of the screen.
Setup
- Neutral light (LED or indirect daylight). Avoid harsh neon and overly warm light.
- Plain background: black, white, or consistent brand color.
- Slow handling: show front, back, holo under angle, corners.
- Transparent sleeve: protects the card AND highlights details.
Voiceover
Optional but recommended. A few seconds to specify:
- Set / number
- Condition (NM, EX, etc.)
- Specifics (PSA 10, rare foil, language)
- Starting price or fixed price
Title and description
- Concise factual title: “Charizard Base Set 4/102 — PSA 9”.
- Complete description: detailed condition, provenance, what’s not visible in video.
- Hashtags: #pokemon #baseset #charizard #psa9 (algorithm uses them for targeting).
Sales format
- Common card: instant buy.
- Rare or holo card: classic auction in Peek (Peek auctions typically run 24-72 hours).
- Lot or bundle: instant buy with attractive volume pricing.
- Iconic piece: save it for a Live, Peek can serve as teaser.
Peek and tax
Like any marketplace sale revenue in France, Peek sales fall under:
- Capital gains exemption on furniture (up to €3,000 per item per year for an individual).
- DAC7 directive: Blisterr automatically reports annual revenues > €2,000 or 30 transactions.
No Peek specificity — tax is the same as Lives or classic instant buys.
Peek and right of withdrawal
For a consumer buyer purchasing from a professional seller via Peek:
- 14-day right of withdrawal after reception (article L.221-18 of French Consumer Code).
- Except L.221-28 exceptions: personalized goods, sealed items opened on request.
For peer-to-peer Peek purchases:
- No right of withdrawal under the Consumer Code.
- Blisterr 30-day buyer protection still applies (item not received, not conforming, counterfeit).
